[So Kayneth is in a rather unexpected situation this go around; that is to say he is currently in a kitchen that has various objects of cultural significance strewn about.
Judging by the ingredients, it appears as though he is attempting to make Mom's Favorite Chocolate-Covered Pretzels. One would think this was an accidental post, but... no.
That would probably be less of a clusterfuck, honestly.]
I am never really sure how many parallels there are between this world and my own, particularly in terms of holidays-even when it makes very little sense for them to be there for apparent historical reasons. With even recent news broadcasts by the natives dropping hints that Valentine's Day-or something like it-is around the corner, I'm finding myself rather curious about what sort of holidays naturally exist in this world.
I suppose that whatever the natives are celebrating could be some sort of equivalent that came about naturally... or it could be something that they picked up on from people from other worlds and decided to exploit in a fairly typical fashion. After all, why would the companies of this world miss out on an opportunity to use relationship-based guilt in their marketing strategies at some point in the year?
[you... you sound bitter, bro]
My general displeasure with the overcommercialization of this holiday aside, it is regrettably very effective in getting people to want copious amounts of sweets, but if I'm going to have anything like that this season it's going to be made by my own hands. Has anyone attempted the recipe that was brought up in Friday's news broadcast and found it to be less than satisfactory? If not... well, it should be obvious that I'm considering trying to make them.

...Oh. I see. That's... quite a shame.
[TRY NOT TO LOOK DISGUSTED, TRY NOT TO LOOK DISGUSTED, TRY NOT TO LOOK DISGUSTED...]
video;
Oh, I don't know about that! I like all the food I've had here so far. Well, aside from the poisoned cookies, but that was sort of an obvious one not to like?
video;
it's something else, grubs can describe more than one thing right even if that's still pretty gross
because what the hell that's fucked up even by nasuverse standards]
The food here is certainly quite good, yes, particularly when it hasn't been poisoned... though I have absolutely no idea where they're getting their meat and fish products. They don't seem to be Pokemon, but I haven't seen any of the animals they supposedly originate from here at all.
video;
...You know, I was wondering the same thing! Do they hide their usual livestock from non-natives or something?

[isn't that the name of his traveling partner's kid... then again he knows jack shit about Japan so it's not like he can tell how common a name that is and both of them would probably know if she was around]
Well, I certainly wouldn't mind getting involved with that network. I tried starting up something similar several months after I arrived, but beyond regular communication with several people who I already knew to be scientifically-minded, it never really went anywhere.
video;
Did you? Well, perhaps you can try again now that there seem to be a few more people interested in getting answers! I think it's all just a matter of talking to the right people at the right time, sometimes.
video;
Perhaps I will. It really can't hurt, though I've had far more luck with one-on-one discussions.
video;
I think sometimes getting to know people one-on-one can be a bit easier, but surely getting all those people together ought to yield some sort of results!

...I do wish I knew why we're locked out of so many things here.
video;
I'm not entirely sure, though suspect it has plenty to do with the fact that we're foreign.
video;
True enough. It just makes me wonder if there's anything they're hiding!
