011 [VIDEO/ACTION FOR AZALEA]

[It is hot as hell today, so Kayneth has taken it upon himself to relocate himself to his room in the local inn rather than in front of the gym. There's a pile of eggs and a nice, fancy-looking list of species and prices slightly out of focus-he'll get to that eventually, but first...! He'll hold up the Hive Badge, although he doesn't look particularly excited to be holding it.]

Apparently, it's customary to show off your badge when you've beaten a Gym Leader... but honestly, I don't think that win was even worth bragging about. The way Bugsy commanded his Pinsir was a complete joke and a terrible way to open the battle. I expected my strategy to be effective, but... I'm quite certain he actually forgot his Pokemon knew Faint Attack until several minutes in, so it was completely useless against Ghost Pokemon for several minutes. There was some challenge to it after that, but I'm quite certain that's because I was using reserve members of my team to make it a challenge.

Then again, I suppose that's only to be expected of a world where no one actually knows why Pokeballs, possibly the most important piece of technology in this world, actually works. You would think I'd be able to get a decent explanation on the workings of Pokeballs, but even the experts who make them are simply working on the fact that a particular set of components just happens to work. Ah, and I believe you would also think that people would bother committing the first individual to happen upon this technology to collective memory... but it seems as though that person has been lost to history, so there aren't even any notes to go on from them.

[He sighs in frustration. Could the people in this world be any more incompetent...]

Then again, I suppose that may as well be like asking who the first person was to discover fire, for all we know. Well, I suppose it's better to focus on the things that aren't ludicrously frustrating, so-

[and now he'll shift the focus to the eggs and the price list!]

Miss Megido asked me to breed two Archen for her and a friend, and, given that it's been over a year since I've been assigned as a breeder and I've been too busy attempting to fine-tune my team to experiment with it beforehand, I decided that now would be as good a time to begin experimenting as any. So, I have a decent variety of Pokemon eggs for what I presume to be reasonable prices... though, if you're willing to provide me some feedback on the Pokemon after they hatch, I'll be perfectly willing to lower them further. I've also trained all of the species included fairly extensively, so if you're unfamiliar with any of them I'll be perfectly willing to give you a good idea of what to expect from them.

[OOC: Badge and info on Pokeballs approved by the mods! Also, there are still plenty of eggs up for grabs-no Archen, Snivy, Cyndaquil, or Petilil slots are still open, unfortunately, but everything else is!]

[There are so many parts of this post that ping Dist so he'll just start with the most pressing subject.]

You actually managed to get a completely useless answer out of those idiots? I made a stop at Silph Co. while visiting Saffron and they wouldn't offer any sort of explanation about any of their products! "It's a secret," they said, as if I was supposed to take that as an answer.

[He scoffs, shaking his head.]

And to think the true answer is they're really just that clueless. I have little hope for this world sometimes.

I'd like to buy that Growlithe egg. I'll give feedback once it's born, but is there anything specific to its species that I should be aware of?

Honestly? Those fucking balls drive me up the wall too. I kind of want to break one open just to see what makes it tick. [But he's not strong enough for that. 8( ] At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the Pokéballs ran off of ~magic~.

[ Seems he's caught Saber in mid-lunch (or mid-dinner, breakfast, brunch, teatime; she doesn't need a reason to eat alright) as she's munching down on some crepe while he rambles on and on about topics she cares little for. Sure, it might be nice to know how a PokeBall works, but she just chalks it up to magic.

Sometimes life is a lot easier when you can just blame things on sorcery... Such as Ditto--how can anyone possibly explain what a Ditto is or how it can do the feats that it does?

Still, he's talking about researching Pokemon. Interesting for a Breeder to ask that, but after another bite, she finally answers him. ]

Is this some kind of group study?

[Don't mind him if he just stops by here, eh?]

Can't really offer to take any of the babies off your hands this time around I think, I'm starting to get a pretty decent number, but the pokeballs...

I have absolutely no clue how they work either, but the fact that they bring my pokemon into a kind of suspended animation kind of creeps me out a bit, I'm not even able to tell you how much.

I know a couple of my pokemon refuse to get in them at all if they can avoid it, but they won't tell me why, even the one who can so it really makes me what they see when they're in there, and if their minds are active even if their body is frozen.

[Someone else with Archen eggs? This must be that "Kayneth" person that Aradia told him about. He has nothing much to say about anything that Kayneth's saying - he isn't interested in why pokéballs work, the fact that they do and he knows how to use them is enough for him - but comparing their Archeops could be interesting.]

You had an Archen egg appear out of nowhere in the winter too, didn't you? Is the one who's with you really aggressive and territorial too?
friendyousohard: (That is NOT scientifically accurate.)

While I don't mind so much that the first person to develop Pokeballs has been lost to time, the fact that no one seems to know how they work is infuriating. And all attempts I've made to study the things with extras I've bought and the use of several tools have proven completely fruitless. I don't know what they use to create the things, but it's definitely not anything we have access to, or we could dismantle them and research them.

Of course, that's assuming they're being honest with us...

[...He seemed to be doing well, rants aside, and to be honest, Lancer's glad for that. Despite having been told to follow his own things in this world, Kayneth is still his Master, and to not check up on him would mean that he's not exactly the best knight to be in his employ.]

Master, congratulations on your badge.

Forget Pokéballs. How the heck can you cram a bicycle into a computer? I guess you could argue that they both use similar technology, but the fact that everyone's so casual about their tech is ridiculous.

[Not to mention irritating.]

But I feel like the people here just don't archive what's really important. You get books on legendaries and fossil Pokémon, but I haven't found a thing on the ancient civilizations that might've existed back then.

The traditional way of making them doesn't really make sense either, unless we accept magic as being an integral part of this world - which I don't mind doing, but it seems clear that people are insisting the balls are science.

Also - thank you so much, Kayneth!

Are you really surprised by this world's short comings?
