[Well, between winter not really being winter and Ecruteak being a vastly more interesting city than the last one he wintered in, Kayneth has decided to take in the sights... well, again. After all, he was all over the place ever since he got there, even in the cold...

...however, admittedly, he's not just doing it to look into the cultural highlights. He's a bit restless, actually. It's not so much that he dislikes Ecruteak or wants to move on --- indeed, far from it, particularly given that it's still winter and he doesn't quite know when the weather will become less pleasant and more seasonally appropriate, and... well, he could stand to stay here until spring just to see how the city looks.

He can't quite place it, really. He's been dealing with some vague sense of melancholy since November that he can't trace the source of.

Or, perhaps, he doesn't want to place the source of it.

So, as he goes through the Ecruteak Museum (again), an annoyance strikes him, and he decides to focus on that instead, because really, it's been giving him a headache for quite a while and sometimes you really just need to ramble to the internet for a while in front of the Burned Tower.]

You know, having spent over a month in Ecruteak, I'm really wondering why it isn't a more popular destination for travelers, given that it's absolutely stunning. Even in the slightly unfortunate drabness of a midwinter thaw, I can't think of a place I've been that's more impressive. Certainly not Goldenrod; one really has to wonder why that city's so popular, given that it pales in comparison to what I'd say is Johto's cultural center.

Perhaps it may have something to do with the fact that the local organized crime syndicate seems to enjoy using it for target practice for reasons I can't quite determine, as it just appears as though they're bored out of their minds.

...Granted, on the subject of culture... I'll admit, I'm starting to miss works of art and literature that don't completely revolve around Pokemon. It's not like this place has nothing of cultural value, but every so often I come across something vaguely familiar... and it is, but there are always Pokemon awkwardly wedged in. Perhaps the natives don't find Whirlipede Heights and Mary Shellder vaguely offputting, but I certainly do. What I wouldn't give for proper literature...

[He pauses for a second, his expression flickering to... something else.]

...and here I am talking about it to some machine. I've really been in this place for far too long...

[He ends the feed, having kind of embarrassingly sort of maybe admitted he was homesick in the most pretentious way ever.]

I'm not even going to ask how you guessed that.

A particularly affectionate Stantler once had its wicked way with my significant other, back when he was still here. I'd always sort of wondered what had happened to it — whether it went on marauding across the Johto countryside, picking up the field mice and kissing them on the head, as it were.

Evidently, it did.

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure which implications I find more staggering; the fact that it suddenly gained the ability to fly during that whole incident, or the idea that there may be more Stantler with the same... peculiarity.

The Christmas spirit works in mysterious ways.

I assume you've recovered from the ordeal?

Just barely, yes. The weather did help, of course.

Which reminds me — have you been painting lately? I like my Christmas presents.

Ah, yes, they certainly do.

On and off, I'd say... I'll admit, I've been in more of a crafting mood lately. There's something about Ecruteak that inspires it, really.

Crafting? What have you been making?

Decorative trinkets, mostly. While I'm loath to admit it, they're mostly to sell for a bit of extra cash... but it's nice to keep my hands busy, regardless of what their actual purpose is.

I wouldn't have figured you as someone in need of extra cash in the first place. What's your medium? Wood carving? Metal sculpture?

Well, I certainly am not under normal circumstances, but these circumstances are by no means normal.

Metal sculptures, for the most part. While I usually work on a grander scale than small figures, it is an interesting challenge to work with more limited materials. I've also occasionally worked with fabric... really, I'd say wood is the only thing I don't usually work with. Not to say that I haven't, but I've always been fonder of... unconventional methods when it comes to carving things.

Color me impressed. I've met at least one woodcarver here that I'm rather fond of; it's nice to hear there's no need for competition in that respect.

Will you show me your work sometime?

Oh, really? Who would that be, if I may ask?

Oh, certainly. You'll have to see what I'm working on whenever you're next in town.

He's an old man who lives in Pallet Town. He does wood carvings in most varieties, but I first learned about him because of a puzzle box he put together. It turns out he's never left the town in his entire life, so all of his music boxes are built to play the music that plays in the background of Pallet Town, and he likes to build them and send them all over the region because he likes to imagine his boxes having magnificent travels in his stead.

He's really a charming fellow; I'm terribly fond of him.

That's... really quite quaint. Though, I really do have to wonder why he never left Pallet, if that's the case.

Then again, traveling here is a bit inconvenient, I suppose, and I'd imagine it would be a bit difficult to get anywhere if you don't get on well with Pokemon.

From what he told me, he was never interested in traveling. He just liked to spend his days living the quaint small-town life with his Patrat in Pallet.

Well, I suppose it takes all types. I really couldn't even imagine living like that, though. It seems like it would get horrendously dull after a time.

It does, doesn't it?

He's a sweet man. I like to visit with him because he's always interested in hearing stories about where I've been.

I imagine that would alleviate the tedium a bit, if nothing else. Hearing about places you'll probably never be able to visit is entertaining, I admit.
