[...thank you for the late Christmas present, Senpai, and he'll give him a locket contact as soon as he gets it while drafting a formal thank you note because it is only polite]
Thank you very much, Marshal! I will definitely put it all to good use --- really, I couldn't thank you enough. Flora and Hermione definitely seem to have good heads on their shoulders, and I'll speak with Kaldur and Dorian immediately. Though... I do believe Kaldur has spoken of having a bit of training, which I intend to attend to once I have the opportunity.
I'm familiar with Korra but not Xavier; nevertheless, I'd be happy to work with them on this plan. Do tell, then? Unless you'd prefer not to do it over the lockets.
[...well, there's something of a conundrum here, and it's that Kayneth really does not want to be seen as some sort of small, furry carnivore, but he absolutely does want to be rescued.
...so, well, it was warmer in his pack anyway and as long as he could be heard, he could just... direct things, he supposed...]
No, no ambushes whatsoever. I am absolutely here, you know, just...
[...he hunkers down a bit more.]
Take the bag, will you?
[...meanwhile Volumen Hydragyrm perks up and gets up to go say hi. It's a little sluggish because it's cold out, though!]
There's a slight pause of hesitation before he decides, opts for safety. ]
In person would be preferable, if it is not too much trouble. My rooms are in the second wing of the keep, three quarters of the way down. Ebony doors with golden runes, two guards outside should let you through.
[ Try not to be too jealous of the huge enchanted doors. One day, Kayneth, one day all this will be yours. Have faith. ]
[ Not at all. You work hard, Kayneth, you get rewarded. You too can have slightly scary doors!
Lancelot opens said scary doors easily, smiles at Kayneth and waves him in. Lady scampers from her bed, small and grey and largely not intimidating for a Marshal's dog, and studies him with a happy wag of her tail. ]
Thank you for coming. Can I ask you to keep this discussion between ourselves for now?
[but why can't he just have the cool thing now... and ah, there's a dog. Well, he's not fond of dogs, but he'll give Lady a bit of a polite pat, anyway. If she is a Good Dog they will have no problems.]
Oh, naturally. I imagine you wouldn't want to keep it in person if it was something that didn't require secrecy.
[ She's certainly a happy dog. Her tail swishes at being pet, and she keeps in step with them as Kayneth crosses in. Lancelot closes the doors behind them, moves through to his small study and gestures for Kayneth to sit. ]
Caer Glaem is preparing to go on the offensive once more.
[ He drops into a chair himself, studies Kayneth thoughtfully. ]
You recall Morla's troops at Cothromac, I assume? The way they burnt through the forest, through our soldiers. If we are to make the first move this time then we need to be prepared. Not just in might, not just in defensive movements but tactically.
[ She has courtly grace, obviously. She is a Lady. Lancelot waves her over so she stays out of Kayneth's way, frowns and strokes at her as he thinks how to begin. ]
As it stands it is an idea, nothing more. I need people to work together and tell me if it can be made a reality. What do you know of Redgate?
[Even if it seemed like it couldn't... well, accomplishing that sort of thing was what being a mage was all about, wasn't it?]
Mostly, I know it was rather messy business and... something about suppressing magical abilities, or... abilities that apparently aren't magic but do a good enough job of resembling it that one could be forgiven for mistaking it as such.
[ Little, then. Lancelot draws himself up a little, frowns as he focuses. ]
Each side of this war has had its own formidable weapon at some point. Caer Glaem once had a dragon. I know not how it came to fall, but after a battle some time ago it was trapped beneath the mountain of Redgate and was bound there in a sleep of some sort. Some Seelie shardbearers went to wake and free it a few months back but... it went poorly. I believe they tried to ask permission, were denied it and tried to press on regardless. The city was built over and around the mountain, the dragon destroyed much of it being broken free and came to die outside Caer Glaem after being attacked.
[ He hesitates, presses on. ]
If we could make them think the dragon yet lived they would not be expecting it. Magic can do many things. Call weather, elements, change an appearance. How it is done would be up to those who achieved it, but if we could even give the impression the guardian of Caer Glaem still lived it would send the Unseelie troops into panic. So far as they know, no dragons are even left living in this world. There are people here who saw it before it died. They could provide any details needed. All we need is a way to make the trick work. It would be surprise enough to give us an edge.
...nevertheless... that sounds like an absolutely fantastic idea. Even if it may be easy to gather intelligence that it was an illusion... it'd provide an excellent display of shock and awe if it were to be used at the opening of a battle.
So, clearly we'd need illusion, which... well, first thing's first, I believe I could accomplish if we had some sort of large flying thing to base it around. I think an anchor would make it easier to focus and give it more of an organic feel, really.
[ He nods agreement, a little relieved in some ways that Kayneth agrees the plan is sound. ]
There are two others I think would be beneficial. Korra, who attended the original trip and knows the dragon. How it should behave, look, and so on. Equally she carries a gift, of sorts. Not quite magic but similar in elemental concept. The other is a man named Charles Xavier. He has gift for effecting the minds of others, what they see. The effect of this trick will need to be as strong and wide-spread as we can keep it. I think his assistance would be invaluable.
[Video] January 15th (in which I forgot this takes place after they first meet lmfao)
[Nico looks like he needs more sleep than he's gotten, but he doesn't care at the moment. Since he doesn't know where Kayneth is, he's just gonna hit up his locket. Why not?]
Marquis Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald?
[...Never once has he felt so pretentious just by saying someone's name before. What the Styx.]
I've been told to report to you as a possible understudy.
[man Kayneth hasn't even had time to celebrate, even if he's really stoked about this news. ...well, in fairness, he really wants to show off even more by accomplishing things now, so he wants to get straight to that quest...
...but he does have a bit of time to slow down and check his locket, in between picking stuff up and cramming, and... ah!]
...Ah, I'd heard something about that... well, I can't really object to an apprentice, so I'll be happy to be working with you...
[...he pauses, looking somewhere off the locket for the notes...]
...di Angelo, then... sorry if I seem a bit distracted, but this... really has been a month.
No problem! [ Bellboy by nature, unknowingly. Bolin hefts the bag over one shoulder, stretching a hand out for Volumen to sniff if it wants. He's not sure if it even can sniff, but whatever. ]
Did I, uh. Did I catch you at a bad time?
[ did korra send him out here to pick up a guy with stomach problems in the woods... ]
Hmm... well, do you have any idea how construction on the White Citadel is going? I'm actually going to be accompanying a group of laborers with building supplies up north, but I'm concerned all the floor plans and whatnot will be done before I really get a chance to stake out a spot...
...well, actually, I imagine Flora would be interested as well, so if you see her, could you discuss the possibility of setting up some kind of magic workshop?
[Video] Sometime between the 12th and the 25th (Sorry for the wide date range!)
Greetings. I hope that things are going well for you during this troubled time. [Not long after Diarmuid finishes training with Stiles, he sits down to contact Kayneth. He has promised to send the magus in Stiles direction and he doesn't want something to come up and keep him from doing so.]
I have been training people on shard use and one of the people I trained is a young man named Stiles Stilinski. He is looking for someone to help him learn to create wards. If you have time, would you get in contact with him? He spends most of his time at Cothromach, but can easily be contacted through his locket.
[...AH... why did this happen while he was on the road, though, it's really a bit of a bother...]
Ah, really? I'll definitely contact him at some point, then.
[...he was admittedly dozing a bit, because it had been something of a rough day... so he'll try to stifle a yawn.]
...mmm, sorry. It's been a long day and I've been on the road... but I'm really not sure when I'll get to meet with him in person, if he's in Cothromach.
Well, I suppose the White Citadel is as good a place as any. Have you heard about the appointment...?
[TRY NOT TO PREEN...]
I'm bringing supplies there from Caer Glaem... both building material and weapons and armor. The latter two are decidedly lacking in any sort of magic whatsoever, so I'm reinforcing them a bit to give ourselves an advantage.
...it's been tedious and sort of tiring, but at least the journey's been dull enough to allow for it.
[Diarmuid repeats the word in a puzzled voice, before something clicks together in his mind.]
You mean you were appointed as one of the the Marquis? It looks like I need to upgrade your title...
[A playful grin crosses his face for a moment before he becomes more serious.]
Congratulations. That might not be the best way to spend the period of time right after your appointment, but the lives that armor and those weapons save will be indebted to you.
...it's admittedly a better one than the one I've heard floating around... but thank you, anyway.
[He's going to fucking kill Llenii one of these days, he swears.]
If nothing else, it'll increase our chances of victory a bit... and it makes travel time a bit more interesting, anyway. I picked a good route, but the unfortunate thing about it is that it's rather dull at the moment...
