14 [VIDEO/ACTION FOR ECRUTEAK] BACKDATED TO THE 11TH

[It's both Kayneth's birthday and anniversary today, and what a lucky boy he is for that! Really, though, he wasn't particularly looking forward to it. It... gave him too much to think about that he didn't necessarily want to be thinking about. He had been here for two years.

Two years, and he wasn't any closer to finding a way to ensure that he could make sure everything went right back home. In fact, given everything that he'd experienced, he honestly felt further away from that goal than ever. There were just too many questions --- about this world, about Pokemon... about his future, about himself, and it seemed as though they simply kept multiplying to an exponential extent the longer he spent in this world.

It was difficult, for someone who had barely questioned anything before, and he had every intention of throwing up something vaguely philosophical and tinged with melancholy onto the network today, after he'd had some time to collect his thoughts.

...nevertheless, like all well laid plans, that idea was completely shattered the moment he walked outside to get a breath of fresh air.]

[The video reveals... someone's yard? Which has... seen better days, really. There are, curiously enough, very shallow holes dug all around the house --- and the camera moves to show exactly what the extent of the damage is.

Someone was very determined about destroying this guy's lawn, that's for sure.

...of course, after a pan over the holes, there is a very angry voice that can be rather positively identified as Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi.]

I'm quite certain I know who did this, but all the same --- I expect you to own up to this.

What made you think this was acceptable in any reality?

There is something of a silver lining, at the very least, but I'm not sure how much of one it is.

This is Pinkie Pie level randomness, but with an almost malevolent bent.

I can guess the person behind this obviously has a grudge against you, but this way of expressing it is just deranged. It's like they thought they were going to find buried treasure in your backyard or something.

This is the one she stole back at the end of October. For whatever reason, she left it at my doorstep.

...either before or after destroying my yard, of course.

If you did in fact meet her, I feel a need to apologize for her. She's kind and friendly, but her energy level is absolutely astounding and her mind just... works on its own wavelength. It takes experience and practice to know how to handle her.

Then that's the gear that was stolen? Did she leave it behind deliberately? As some sort of taunt? Or was it an accident?

I honestly don't know. She seems to have intended it for my Archeops, as she is wont to do. Nevertheless... yes, I'm quite pleased to have it back, even at the expense of my yard.

I honestly don't know where she got it from even back home. Many of her possessions and abilities seem to defy rational explanation. In fact that sometimes seems to be the point.

So she was leaving a gift for your Pokemon... Then is she the sort of person who gets along better with Pokemon than people? I've known a few like that.

...That's... truly bizarre. Is she a unicorn with some sort of ability to conjure things out of nothing, then? I believe I only really met her in her human form.

It wouldn't surprise me, honestly. Most of my interactions with her have involved her being angry with me for answering voicemails that were intended for my Archeops.

Not in the least. That's the truly strange part, in fact. She's an earth pony. She has no magic. Yet she routinely displays abilities and creations that not only would prove a distinct challenge to make without it, but that also defy the laws of magic as I know them. So it would seem she has some sort of other source for what she does, but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is. It's just... beyond me.

[And for Twilight Sparkle to admit something is beyond her takes quite a bit of doing.]

Can your Archeops respond? It's not like it's a psychic type or a Porygon...

...That's truly bizarre. What a curiosity... have you ever interviewed her about it? Or is she too... incorrigible for that?

Well, he's developed a strong interest in technology, so he's been... very slowly teaching himself to type. I haven't noticed him attempting to communicate verbally, but he is getting fairly decent, even if he seems to ignore several basic rules of grammar simply because they don't appeal to him.

I've tried to talk to her about it, but she doesn't really seem to understand how she does it either, nor want to. Which... might have something to do with it, actually? It seems the more impossible or irrational her actions, the more likely they are to work for her.

Well, that's impressive. Shame about the grammar though. The rules exist for a reason.

...I'm not sure if that's better or worse, honestly. I'm certain she'd earn herself a Sealing Designation immediately in my world, but I have no idea if that would even work...

Probably not. Attempting to seal her sounds like an attempt doomed to failure from the get-go.

Precisely. Granted, we've taken care of some fairly problematic individuals, but I'm not sure what level that would be on.

Cockney? I don't believe I'm familiar with that term. Is it a dialect of some sort?

Something like that. It's... both a dialect and an accent that's common among the lower classes of my native Britain.

This person I've been talking to you about seems to be from a different country entirely, which is why I'm a bit lost.

That is strange. Perhaps it's from a different source, then. Does he have any other notable humans he talks to often?

Not that I know of, though I haven't really been monitoring his conversations all that closely. I should start doing that, of course, but I think he's better at technology than I am...

I do seem to recall you telling me you had a natural disadvantage there. Science and magic being diametrically opposed in your world after all. It's a shame, really, I'd think being able to use both would result in some pretty amazing results.

Something like that, yes. I've learned to tolerate technology here, given that hearing other people's magic systems has broadened my horizons a bit, particularly conversations with a friend who utilizes that method quite heavily.

...but really, I'd rather not have to effectively rely on it as much as it's necessary to do so here.

It's largely irrelevant in Equestria, or even my world as a whole. Technology simply hasn't advanced to this level. But, now that I think about it... Most of the technological advancements we've made have been due to the efforts of Earth Ponies, rather than unicorns or pegasi. Which I suppose makes sense, mostly the advancements benefit them more.

That does make sense... and I'd say it's roughly what happened in my world as well. I wouldn't say it's an attempt for those without magic to compensate for not having it, necessarily, since they shouldn't know magic exists in the first place... but I suppose that's the best way to put it.

Well it's a natural thing for people to want to increase their quality of life. For magi, that would mean increasing their strength in magic, but for those without magic, advancing their world through technology seems like the logical thing to do.

Which means, I'm afraid, that they'll have a bit of an easier time relating to your Porygon.

...I suppose, yes. Then again, it's probably easier to view positively when it doesn't have a direct negative effect on your craft.

One wonders if maybe your Porygon can tell that you have that sort of attitude. It might explain its attempts to frustrate you if it's taking it personally.
